The beanie babies have left the building

I've been storing 2 boxes of beanie babies in our garage for two years now. Before that, I stored them in a closet. And before that I stored them in another closet across town. My husband's been interested in parting with them since the moment he saw them. I've drug my feet for any number of reasons. Partially because I blew a stack of cash on them. Partially because they remind me of a single girl in the world happy period in my life. And partially because they're cute:

That's Chocolate the moose. And he lives somewhere else as of Sunday. And I'm okay with it. Because professional organizer Peter Walsh says, if he was sitting in a box for 7 years now I must not love him as much as I thought I did. And just because I blew a big stack of cash accumulating him and his 74 other friends doesn't mean I have to keep them til the end of time. Sometimes you blow money on stupid stuff. Accept it and move on. And drop the stupid stuff off at Goodwill so someone else can enjoy it.

I took pictures to commemorate them though. Here are the two boxes of beanie babies I blew a stack of cash on:

Here they are spread out just in case the boxes made it look like there weren't that many:

Look, I even had the ones from McDonald's:

Because you're not a real collector until you've driven around town trying to locate the Maple bear to complete your International Mini Bear Collection. I don't even think I thought they'd be worth anything either. I mean, I'm not a total idiot. And yet, I left them in the original packaging. So how diseased was my brain? And why do I still think they are so very, very cute? I guess because they are:

But it's okay for them to be cute somewhere else now. Because the New Year New Me doesn't need them to be happy.

Oh but all those dogs sure are cute! This would have been a big step even for me. You rock!

Very impressive to get rid of those...maybe I should do the same with the Boyd's Bear collection I have sitting in boxes...

Good for you! I have a huge collection of those silly things. I did use to sell some of them on ebay, but that wasn't my main reason for buying them, ugh! I started convincing myself I could get rid of mine a few months ago, I think I had 3 or 4 plastic containers of them. I ended up getting rid of one container, but not the rest. I'm still working on it, lol. They ended up getting buried in the basement with Xmas, so when I unearth them, they will be going!

Everybody owned at least one at some point - and if they say that they didn't, I bet they're lying. Except me, I never had any. Okay - I'm lying. I had like 20.

I think Peter would be proud of you! You are motivating me to keep going with my own clutter removal process.

Got to be worth something on ebay...right?

Good for you. But, I did enjoy searching for my beanies, probably more than owning them. It was like one big scanvenger hunt!!

I have two beanies - the bat and the mouse. They share my bedroom with me and I just love them.

Congratulations on this turn of events. I once thought I NEEDED a full collection of Walt Disney clas film coffee mugs. What? The Disney store was new, and I was a little over-stimulated by all the collectibility. Hm..whose house did I leave those in?

maggie - Thanks! And they are cute aren't they!

joy - Thanks! Parting with them was easier than I thought it would be but I still felt bad.

amy - If it helps, it's very freeing to let them go. I feel lighter and better.

ginny - Do it. You'll be glad you did.

shan - Thanks!

c - Right. Every girl I know has owned some at one point. My husband finds this baffling because he's never once had the urge to buy one. I had to explain to him that's because he's male.

anne - Yeah! I love Peter. I wish he would come to my house. I've just about finished decluttering but I just know he would turn us into a well oiled machine. And I desperately need a well oiled machine! And good luck on your own decluttering!

bogart - My husband tried to talk me into selling them on eBay. But I looked around on eBay and they weren't going for much. It wouldn't really be worth my time to do the ads and all that. I decided there's value in giving to charity too.

leigh - Yes! I used to go with a friend to all the different Hallmark stores checking for new ones.

elaine - Had them both. Loved them. The first one I ever had was the crab. Sort of multicolored. Lovely. I wish I remembered his name.

felicia - Yes, indeed, bye-bye!

caroline - Don't feel bad. I had a collection of Disney glass cups from McDonalds. What is with me and the McDonald's crap?

You and I could totally be friends. I mean, for all I know you're a serial killer. But I'm willing to forgive that because you have McDonald's mini beanie babies packed away in boxes. I understand where you're coming from.
